Laparoscopy in a horse with an abdominal lymphosarcoma

Zusammenfassung

Der vorliegende Fallbericht beschreibt die erfolgreiche Diagnosestellung eines abdominalen Lymphosarkoms bei einem Hannoveraner-Wallach, welche erst durch histopathologische Untersuchung des laparoskopisch gewonnenen Bioptats der inguinalen, neoplastisch veränderten Lymphknoten verifiziert werden konnte. Das Lymphosarkom ist der häufigste Tumor des hämatopoetischen Systems des Pferdes und präsentiert sich dabei klinisch, wie auch im vorliegenden Fall, meist nur anhand unspezifischer Symptome wie Anorexie, milder Kolik sowie Gewichts- und Konditionsverlust. Mithilfe der diagnostischen Laparoskopie konnten die Bauchhöhle und ihre Organe am stehenden, sedierten Pferd eingesehen und pathologisch veränderte Strukturen unter Sichtkontrolle beprobt werden.

Summary

The following case report describes the successful diagnosis of an abdominal lymphosarcoma in a Hanoverian gelding, which could not be verified until pathohistological analysis of the laparoscopic biopsy material of inguinal, tumourous lymph nodes. Lymphosarcoma is the most common neoplasia of the hematopoetic system in the horse. The clinical signs such as anorexia, mild colic symptoms and weight loss or poor condition which could be also observed in the patient described here, are rather non-specific and laboratory findings are highly variable. In this case, diagnostic laparoscopy enabled minimally invasive examination of the peritoneal cavity and its organs and allowed biopsy of abnormal structures under visual control.
