Alveolus treatment with honey dressings aftertooth extraction in a warmblood geldingHoney improves epithelisation of purulent and slowhealing wounds in the tooth socket. Due to its natural compositionhoney acts as an antioxidative, and hence has a bacteriostatic andalso bacteriocidic effect. Possibly, enzymatic activity of releasedhydrogen peroxide plays an important role. This report describesthe case of a warmblood gelding treated postoperatively with tamponadesof honey after extraction of the 110 due to an apical process. The wound healed without formation of pus.
