Summary
This report describes a case of necrotising sialometaplasia (NS) in a Labrador Retriever. The diagnosis was based on the presence of an ischemic infarction of the salivary gland with arterial thrombosis and characteristic squamousmetaplastic proliferations in a representative incision biopsy. In the described case, the four-year-old bitch showed increasing inappetence in combination with an acute unilateral submandibular swelling in the region of the left salivary gland. The dog was treated with prednisolone and the lesion healed within the following three months without any further therapy. In conclusion, NS has to be included in the list of differential diagnoses of salivary gland diseases in Labrador Retrievers with indicative clinical symptoms.
