Zusammenfassung

Thyreostatika werden zur Therapie der felinen Hyperthyreose sowohl kurzfristig im Vorfeld einer Radiojodtherapie oder Thyreoidektomie als auch lebenslänglich bei den Katzen eingesetzt, die sich nicht für eine kurative Therapie eignen. In Deutschland sind derzeit nur orale Thyreostatika zugelassen. Im vorliegenden Fallbericht wurde eine 14-jährige hyperthyreote Katze vorgestellt, bei der die orale Gabe von Thiamazol-Tabletten aufgrund mangelnder Compliance unmöglich war. Nach Umwidmung gemäß § 56a (2) Arzneimittelgesetz (AMG) wurde das Tier parenteral mit einem humanmedizinischen Präparat therapiert. Der Fall zeigt, dass die Injektion der Thiamazol-Lösung eine Alternative zu der in solchen Fällen häufig verordneten transdermalen Formulierung darstellen kann. Die therapeutischen Möglichkeiten zur Wiederherstellung einer euthyreoten Stoffwechsellage bei Katzen mit Schilddrüsenüberfunktion werden ergänzend erläutert.

Summary

Thyreostatic drugs are used for therapy of feline hyperthyroidism prior to radioiodine therapy or thyroidectomy, as well as for long term medical treatment in cats, when curative therapy is not possible. In Germany, currently only oral thyrostatic agents are approved for use in cats. This case report describes a 14-year-old hyperthyroid cat in which oral administration of methimazole tablets was not possible due to lack of compliance. After reclassification in accordance with §56a (2) Arzneimittelgesetz (AMG) (German law on medicinal products), the patient was treated parenterally with a human-medical preparation. Injection of the methimazole solution can be an alternative to the frequently prescribed transdermal formulation. The therapeutic options for the restoration of euthyroidism in cats with hyperthyroidism are explained in detail.
